Cartagena

Destinations

Extend the trip past Cartagena — Santa Marta and Tayrona.

Most guests pair four nights in Cartagena with three in Tayrona or Santa Marta. We run properties in both, plus the transport between them.

Tayrona National Park coastline

Tayrona National Park

Two private beaches, a natural aquarium, and our cook Gladys.

Tayrona grips the Caribbean coast in a jungly bear-hug at the foot of the Sierra Nevada. Palm-shaded coves, lagoons, rainforest, and the Pueblito ruins (an archaeological site accessed via forest trails). At least 56 endangered species call the park home; most stay deep in the forest.

Most travellers come for the beaches set in deep bays, backed by mountains and shaded by coconut palms. We have one property here: a Private Ecohab Bungalow with two private beaches and a natural aquarium for snorkel and dive — staffed by our cook Gladys, who has been with us for years.

Book the bungalow and we coordinate transport from Santa Marta, meals, and beach trips.

Santa Marta

Colombia's oldest surviving city.

Founded July 29, 1525 by Rodrigo de Bastidas — the first Spanish settlement in Colombia, the oldest surviving in the country, the second oldest in South America. He chose the site at the foot of the Sierra Nevada to serve as a base for reaching the Tayrona gold treasures.

Today the secret to Santa Marta is to use it for what it does well: our properties around Parque de los Novios, the restaurants and bars, then get out to Tayrona for the days.
